Owing to, BCSS Board of Education’s announcement,
The County of Bergen is reviewing options for limiting the spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). Consistent with that goal, the Bergen County Executive has, upon the recommendation of the County Health Officer, directed that the Bergen County Technical Schools and Special Services School Districts close school for all students, effective Wednesday, March 11, 2020 through Friday March 20, 2020.
All field trips, internships, athletics and other extracurricular activities that operate in BCSS and BCTS schools and programs are also cancelled. A decision about continued closure will be made prior to March 20, 2020. School district administration will keep all families and staff informed as additional information develops.
It is important to note that there has been no report of any student or staff member in either school district being infected, or directly exposed to infection, to date. However, our schools are unique learning environments that receive students from over 70 Bergen County municipalities as well as serving students from eight counties outside of Bergen County.
Following our receipt of information from the NJ Department of Education late last week, the administrative and educational staff in all our schools began working on plans to deliver on-going educational programming during an extended school closure. District staff will be reporting to work at their respective schools on Wednesday March 11, 2020 and Thursday, March 12, 2020 in order to complete lesson planning and service coordination during the closure period. Parents/Guardians, and students as appropriate, will be receiving further information regarding the various means of accessing assignments, schedules and activities to complete at home in the next few days.
This situation has evolved rapidly over the last two weeks. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time as we work together in taking the recommended steps to maintain student education while protecting the safety of our school communities.
